As part of the Ministry of Education ongoing efforts to strengthen school leadership across Fiji, selected Heads of Schools and Senior Managements took part in a leadership training today based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People framework, led by FranklinCovey coaches Mr. Samuela Savou and Mr. Ashok Gore.
Speaking to the forum, the Hon. Minister for Education highlighted that the leadership training is part of the Ministryβs initiative, introduced to address current challenges in schools such as improving work ethics and strengthening accountability among Heads of Schools. He reminded participants that they were chosen from thousands of leaders because of their potential to be agents of change. Honourable Radrodro encouraged school leaders to take their roles seriously, guide teachers effectively, and implement improvements to raise the standard and quality of education across Fiji.
Participants engaged in group activities, presentations, and discussions, applying the 7 Habits framework to practical scenarios in their schools. These interactive sessions allowed Heads to explore challenges, share ideas, and develop strategies to improve leadership, productivity, and school culture.
The 7 Habits framework helps leaders work more effectively and includes:
β’ Be Proactive β Take responsibility for what you can influence.
β’ Begin With the End in Mind β Set clear goals and work towards them.
β’ Put First Things First β Focus on the most important tasks.
β’ Think Win-Win β Find solutions that benefit everyone.
β’ Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood β Listen and communicate respectfully.
β’ Synergize β Work together and use diverse ideas to achieve more.
β’ Sharpen the Saw β Keep learning and improving yourself.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to ensure school leaders are equipped to inspire students, support teachers, and contribute meaningfully to Fijiβs education goals. It also reinforces the expectation that, with the Governmentβs continued investment in education, the largest allocation in the national budget, teaching and non-teaching staff deliver the best outcomes for students, ensuring no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education.
