The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, joined members of the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam last evening at Nasinu Sangam Primary School to honour the pioneers who laid the foundation for one of Fijiβs largest cultural and educational organisations.
The event marked the beginning of celebrations leading up to TISI Sangamβs centennial in 2026, a milestone that reflects the organisationβs 100 years of growth, resilience, and contributions to Fijiβs multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
Speaking at event, the Hon. Minister acknowledged the foresight and commitment of Sangamβs founders, who, despite limited resources and challenges, established institutions that continue to serve communities today. He highlighted the important role of past officials, school leaders, and community members who guided the development of Nasinu Sangam since the late 1970s, including the establishment of Nasinu Sangam Primary School in 1991.
The Hon. Minister also commended the TISI Sangamβs wide-reaching contributions to Fijiβs education, culture, and community development. With 21 primary schools, 5 secondary schools, a nursing school, and 19 temples across the country, Sangam institutions have nurtured generations of Fijians and produced professionals who have made significant contributions to national progress.
He further noted that Sangam has been a driving force in preserving language, culture, and religion, while also engaging in relief work, health services, and cultural exchange. The Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi, now a prominent cultural and tourist landmark, was recognised as one of the organisationβs major achievements.
The Hon. Minister reaffirmed the Coalition Governmentβs commitment to supporting cultural and educational institutions like Sangam, stating that policies and programs will continue to focus on schools, curricula, teacher training, and cultural initiatives that strengthen unity in Fijiβs multicultural society.
As the organisation prepares for its centennial celebrations in 2026, the Hon. Minister encouraged members to reflect on their history, honour the sacrifices of their pioneers, and continue building a legacy that future generations will carry forward.
The evening brought together Sangam leaders, pioneers, affiliates, and guests, including members of the Sangam diaspora from Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand, who continue to support Sangamβs mission in Fiji.
