The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, today officially opened Fijiβs first-ever TVET Skills Fair and Careers Expo at the National Gymnasium in Suva. The event, organised by the Ministry of Education with support from the Australian Government, brought together schools, higher education institutions, industry leaders, government ministries, and development partners to showcase Fijian skills and provide career pathways for students.
The Minister, Hon. Radrodro highlighted that the Skills Fair represents a major milestone for Fijiβs education sector, positioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a primary pathway for employment, entrepreneurship, and nation-building.
In a landmark initiative championed by the Honourable Minister, student projects from the 2025 TVET and Test initiatives were successfully moderated and showcased at a national level raising the profile of TVET pathways and celebrating student innovation.
The Skills Fair featured exhibitions and competitions across construction, agriculture, hospitality, automotive, technology, and the creative industries. Students also engaged with initiatives such as TVET First program with FNU, connecting them to practical learning and potential career opportunities.
The Hon. Minister outlined key reforms under the Coalition Governmentβs vision βEmpowering Fijiβs Futureβ, including new micro-qualification programs, the introduction of vocational technology from Year 9, and expanded partnerships with industry to prepare students for the workforce. He acknowledged the strong support of the Australian Government through the Australia Pacific Skills Program, scholarships, and training exchanges, which are enabling Fijian students to gain international exposure and apply knowledge that benefits local communities and the economy.
As alluded by the Minister, schools can dedicate more time to skills-based activities after Term 3 exams, ensuring students remain engaged in practical learning that develops confidence, competence, and employable skills.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that the TVET Skills Fair and Careers Expo will become an annual platform to celebrate student talent, strengthen school-to-work transitions, and connect education with industry needs. By showcasing skills across diverse sectors, from agriculture and construction to digital innovation and the creative industries, the Expo establishes a foundation for students to access greater opportunities locally and internationally.
The event reflects the Coalition Governmentβs ongoing commitment to investing in young people, working closely with development partners like Australia, and collaborating with industry leaders to ensure that education translates into real jobs, thriving businesses, and sustainable livelihoods.
Looking ahead, the TVET Skills Fair aims to inspire students to see practical skills as essential for their future and reinforce Fijiβs ambition to build a skilled, resilient, and globally competitive workforce that drives national prosperity.
