LAUNCH OF INFRASTRUCTURE ASSESSMENT REPORT – PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT AND FIJI – TRANSFORMING SUVA-NAUSORI SCHOOLS FOR A SAFER AND BETTER LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Today, the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, officially launched the Infrastructure Assessment Report for Suva-Nausori Schools. This report provides a roadmap for improving school facilities and infrastructure across the region, ensuring better learning environments for students.

The report evaluates 86 schools in the Suva-Nausori corridor, highlighting areas that need improvement, such as overcrowded classrooms, outdated sanitation facilities, and the need for enhanced disaster resilience.

The Australian Government, through its Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), is funding upgrades beginning at Suva Primary School.

Forty-one schools will get better water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities, creating safer environments. The government is also upgrading buildings to make them more resistant to natural disasters, including stronger roofs and windows.

Accessibility for students with disabilities is a priority, with new school designs incorporating ramps and accessible restrooms to ensure equal access to education. In addition, sustainable solutions like termite-resistant materials and solar energy systems will be integrated into renovations to ensure long-term benefits.

The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, stressed the government’s focus on improving school infrastructure in Fiji. With support from communities, partners like AusAid, and the private sector, these upgrades will provide students with safe and modern learning spaces.
