SCHOOLS ACROSS FIJI TO RESUME TOMORROW, LAU GROUP SCHOOLS REMAIN CLOSED

In consultation and coordination with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, advises all Heads of Schools, teachers, parents, and students that all schools across Fiji, except for the Lau group, will open for classes tomorrow, Wednesday, 26th February 2025.

Tropical Cyclone Rae has caused significant damage to the infrastructure in the Lau group, including roads, bridges, and crossings, impacting the ability of students and teachers to access their schools. Several schools are also being used as evacuation centers, preventing them from operating as usual. As a result, schools in the Lau group will remain closed until further notice.

“Schools in the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, Western, Central Divisions, and Rotuma will be open as scheduled. However, we urge parents to use their discretion when deciding whether to send their children to school, particularly in areas impacted by flooding or other hazards,” said the Minister.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Radrodro. further advised school heads to stay in close contact with their respective Management Committees, as well as District and Divisional Officers, for any further updates.

“The Ministry of Education is monitoring the situation closely and will provide additional information as needed. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students. We thank all parents, guardians, and communities for their continued support during this time.”
