MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND POLICE JOIN FORCES TO INVESTIGATE STUDENT BRAWL
The Ministry of Education is working closely with the Fiji Police Force to determine the reasons for the brawl which involved some school students outside of Nabua Secondary School yesterday afternoon.
The Minister for Education, Hon Aseri Radrodro, is supporting the call by the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu in their investigations especially to discourage the deplorable actions of students who were still in their school uniforms .
According to Hon Radrodro, it is such behavior that discourages Heads of Schools and Principals from taking on certain students into their school, and it becomes a challenge for the Ministry of Education to emphasize that the right to education is a inherent right of students and is essentially a part of the Coalition government’s policy for equitable access to quality education.
Honourable Radrodro, is thus calling on parents and guardians, and all stakeholders to play a vigilant role in their children’s behavior and warns that the Ministry has a responsibility to protect other students from those who may pose a harm to their safety. He says that the MOE will be approaching the Fiji Police Force to profile those students who may be a threat to any school environment, and decisions will then be considered thereafter on how to ensure those that have rehabilitated are encouraged to continue their education, and those who are detrimental to other students and teachers are acted upon with possible banning from school.
The Minister, Honorable Radrodro is wishing all students and teachers a violent free day and hopes they will continue to enjoy this new school year with the many exciting school programs they have ahead of them.
