FNU TO POSTPONE HOSTEL FEES INCREASE
After our meeting today, the Fiji National University (FNU) has agreed to postpone its planned increase in hostel fees until the next national budget. This decision was made with the concurrence of stakeholders namely the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC), the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development & Strategic Planning, Hon. Biman Prasad, the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, TSLS Board Chairlady, Ro Teimumu Kepa and CEO, FCCC and CCF officials.
The decision to delay the fee increase was seen as a step towards ensuring fairness and transparency in the university’s decision-making processes, recognising the importance of keeping students and stakeholders properly informed through consultation and careful consideration of student welfare, and institutional sustainability.
The Coalition Government’s priority is to ensure that education remains accessible and that any changes are implemented in a manner that upholds trust and confidence in our education system.
The FNU team acknowledged the importance of adhering to the required processes and expressed its willingness to engage in further discussions to ensure all necessary consultations are conducted moving forward.
