MINISTERIAL VISIT TO DESHBANDHU VITOGO SCHOOL FOLLOWING FIRE DAMAGE

Acting Minister for Education, Hon. Nalumisa, visited Deshbandhu Vitogo School to assess the damage caused by a fire that destroyed four classrooms, the administration block, and the computer room.

During the visit, Hon. Nalumisa met with the Head of School, teachers, parents, and Ministry representatives to assure them that the Coalition Government will provide support and resources to help the school recover.

The SMC, parents and school community expressed their deep appreciation for the support of the Coalition Government and agreed to facilitate and colloborate with the Ministry in whatever way they could towards the rebuilding of their school.

Fortunately, the ECE classroom, school library, and restrooms were saved. The school will be closed for two days while the Ministry collaborates with management to resume classes on Wednesday, 16th October 2024.

Class arrangements will be as follows:

• Years 1 & 2: School library

• Years 5 & 6: Teachers’ quarters

• Years 3, 4, 7 & 8: UNICEF tent

Deshbandhu Vitogo School has a total enrollment of 49 students.

The Ministry delegation included Assistant Minister for Education, Hon. Iliesa Vanawalu, Permanent Secretary Ms. Selina Kuruleca, and other officials.
