The Hon. Minister led TSLS delegation with Board Chair, CEO and Overseas Scholarship Coordinator along with staff of Ministry of Education on Thursday visited Government sponsored students at University of Newcastle. The delegation was received by Chancellor of the University and Fiji Students Association.

University of Newcastle is one of the first universities to join the Cost Sharing Ph. D Overseas Scheme as they signed the agreement with TSLS on 3rd July in Fiji. The delegation met with university executives and informed about policy changes, new overseas scheme and increased allocation of overseas undergraduate scholarships. University of Newcastle is the only university to have Pacific Strategy for last three years. Through the Strategy, the executives have shown great interest for collaboration with the Fiji Government and institutions.

The nine (9) students at the Newcastle University met with the delegation and appreciated the visit which has given them more encouragement and motivation. They shared that the university takes good care of them, academically and through support mechanisms.

Part of the discussions was for the delegation to look into workplace attachment with employers through university executives. Also, the Minister for Education extended the invitation to the students to do practicals in Fiji.

The visit has demonstrated Governmentโ€™s seriousness and commitment to investment in overseas sponsored students.

The Minister for Education has assured the students that the Coalition Government will continue to keep their commitment to uplifting the standard of education for all our children.
