The Permanent Secretary for Education upon close consultation with the National Disaster Management Office wishes to advise that schools will continue today and that we all continue to remain vigilant and exercise discretion, safety and security during the current adverse weather conditions we are facing throughout the Country. “Please be aware of localised weather extremes in your areas, be responsible, and we all must be safe.”
“Our weather update from NDMO this morning 6.30am shows that there was some heavy rain last night (14.3.24) and spells of heavy rain in some parts of the country is expected. Parents and guardians please exercise caution.”
The high tide is expected at 10.35am this morning, and the low tide at 5.31pm. All school heads please be in contact with your local communities and use your discretion. Please continue to liaise with your Divisional office.
“We continue to urge all parents and guardians to be vigilant and ensure their children are protected from the intense weather conditions and flooding. It is also advisable to monitor your children to stay away from flooded streams and creeks and refrain from playing or swimming in flooded waters,” said Ms Kuruleca.
“Parents must adhere to the weather update and take all necessary precautions to prevent any mishaps. All Head of Schools and School Management Committees are reminded to ensure that their schools are secure.”
PS Education affirms that the Ministry is working with the Senior Management Staff on ways to compensate the lost teaching and learning contact hours due to these unforeseen circumstances.
Ms Kuruleca advises all parents and guardians to keep following the weather news issued in the media and emphasises that the Ministry will continue liaising with the NDMO prior to any further decisions.
