The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro today officiated at the ‘Na Siga Vakaturaga’ an event celebrating the nations 55th Fiji Dayof Pride celebrations, a day-long celebration honoring the heart, culture, and enduring spirit of Fiji. This event was proudly hosted by Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort.
The day began with a traditional Flag Ceremony at 11:00 AM and was followed by the unveiling and cutting of a spectacular five-tier cake—55 kilograms in weight and 55 inches in dimensions—a sweet tribute to Fiji’s unity and resilience. The massive cake was shared at a Community Table, with special deliveries made to the Loloma Kids Home and Denarau Taxi Drivers. The morning’s events featured a live performance by the Troupe Band.
In his address, Hon. Radrodro commended the resort for its commitment to the local community, stating that events like this show how tourism and culture come together to create unforgettable experiences, not just for our visitors, but for our local communities as well.
The celebrations continued throughout the day with a curated Island Indulgence High Tea at the Cellar & Barrel from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, featuring locally inspired sweet and savoury selections with a distinct Fijian flair, accompanied by acoustic live music.
The day closed in the “Lali & Lovo” event from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a vibrant celebration of Fiji’s heritage featuring traditional rhythms, cultural performances, live music, and the rich flavours of a Lovo feast, prepared in a traditional underground oven.
In closing remarks, the Education Minister echoed the words of Fiji’s Founding Father, The Right Honourable Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, stating, “I am confident that Fiji can show the world an example of harmony and progress out of all proportions to its size,” and reminded all in attendance, “This is Fiji — where happiness comes naturally”.
