The Ministry of Education acknowledges the first-ever overseas trip for Fiji’s Special and Inclusive Education (SIE) team. This knowledge-sharing visit to Melbourne, Australia, took place during the recent school break and focused on strengthening the skills of our educators in teaching children with disabilities and special needs.
Before leaving, the team met with the Honourable Minister for Education, who endorsed the trip and wished them well. The SIE team sincerely thanks the Minister for his support and guidance, which allowed them to fully participate in all learning activities during the visit.
The SIE team members represent the following schools:
• Latianara Primary
• Arya Samaj Primary
• Hilton Early Intervention Center
• Nasavusavu Special School
• Labasa Special School
• Nausori Special School
They were accompanied by three education officers who supported the team throughout the trip.
During the trip, the team:
Visited a variety of schools, including special developmental schools, country schools, and junior high schools
Attended full-day sessions with the Victorian Department of Education to learn best practices in special and inclusive education
Participated in the National Education Summit 2025, engaging with international education experts and stakeholders
This trip gave the team practical strategies and new ideas that will help them improve teaching, better support students, and strengthen inclusive education in Fiji. These learnings will benefit all children across the country.
The Ministry also thanks the Victorian Department of Education and all the schools visited for their warm welcome, generosity, and willingness to share knowledge. This partnership shows a shared commitment to inclusive education and the success of every child.
Vinaka vakalevu to our dedicated SIE team for representing Fiji with pride and for their commitment to a brighter, inclusive future for all students.
