The Ministry of Education celebrates the growing impact of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Fiji’s schools. TVET is now integrated into classrooms to equip students with practical, job-ready skills in fields like construction, agriculture, automotive, and hospitality, broadening career options and supporting national development.
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐕𝐄𝐓 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:
𝟭) 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴):
Students in the Micro-Qualification in Housekeeping are gaining real-world experience by setting up hostel bedding to industry standards.
𝟮) 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴):
Plumbing students are applying their skills to school infrastructure projects, enhancing both technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
𝟯) 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘃𝘂 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 (𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲):
Students used their welding skills to construct the school’s main gate, demonstrating how practical learning benefits the school and community.
𝟰) 𝗡𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘂𝘃𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘆 & 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘆):
Cookery and Bakery students are putting their skills into practice through the preparation of puff pastries, chicken pies, and sausage rolls, an enterprising skill training initiative undertaken at the school level.
𝟱) 𝗔𝗱𝗶 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘂 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗔𝗖𝗦), 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗕𝗠𝗦), 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵’𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗦𝗝𝗦𝗦), 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗔𝗩 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲:
Students from these schools are exploring skill-based learning experiences alongside their mainstream academic subjects under the TVET 1ST Initiative, a pilot project introduced by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Fiji National University (FNU).
𝟲) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 have successfully completed another construction project as part of their competency-based assessment, further equipping them with hands-on experience for fieldwork after graduation.
By strengthening industry links, upskilling teachers, and upgrading facilities, TVET is shaping a skilled and adaptable workforce. It stands as a practical, forward-looking pathway to success in Fiji’s economy.
