The National Climate Change Week was officially launched today (07:04:2025) with each tree planted during the week symbolising action and adaptation for a sustainable future.

The weeklong campaign with the theme β€œAdaptation through Tree Planting for a Sustainable Future” will also see 20 secondary schools located beside the coastlines of Fiji pilot the planting of 4,000 seedlings within their immediate seashore from April 7 to April 11.

Speaking at the launch at Suva Grammar School, Assistant Minister for Education Hon. Iliesa Vanawalu said education was the strongest tool in the fight against climate change.

β€œThis theme reminds us that climate change is not just an environmental issue, it is an education issue. It is a community issue, a matter of survival, and more importantly of responsibility and adaptation is no longer a choice, it is a necessity,” Hon. Vanawalu stated.

To ensure the success of the campaign, the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry has provided technical support in mangrove planting, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has provided 4000 seedlings while the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has granted consent for planting mangroves in various planting sites.
