WOMEN IN SCHOOL LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM
The Ministry of Education’s Women in School Leadership Symposium brought together over 250 women school leaders from across the country. The event focused on empowering women in educational leadership and featured inspiring keynote addresses and presentations. These talks highlighted leadership, resilience, and advocacy in education.
While speaking at the event, the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sainiana Radrodro, emphasized the importance of strong leadership among women in education. She highlighted the significant role that women leaders play in shaping the future of education and encouraged ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and create more inclusive leadership opportunities for women in schools.
Other prominent speakers at the event included Ms. Tess McSpedden, First Secretary at the Australian High Commission, who shared insights on leadership development and the role of partnerships in promoting gender equality in education. Na Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, spoke about breaking barriers and the challenges and opportunities for women leaders in education. She also shared her own leadership journey and called for systemic changes to support women in leadership roles.
Ms. Ana Laqeretabua, Pacific Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist, discussed building resilience and confidence in leadership roles. She stressed the importance of self-belief, mentorship, and continuous professional development. Ms. Unaisi Matewai from the Fiji Police Force addressed critical issues surrounding sexual offenses and child abuse, urging school leaders to create safe learning environments for children. Ms. Jacqueline Low, Head of School at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, presented on the Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls, highlighting the role of education in driving societal change.
The symposium served as a platform for dialogue, learning, and networking, equipping women leaders with the tools and knowledge to navigate challenges and make meaningful contributions to the education sector. It reaffirmed the collective commitment to strengthening women’s leadership, gender equality, and child protection in Fiji’s education system.
Certificates were issued to all participants as a recognition of their involvement and commitment to the cause.
