SCHOOLS IN LAU GROUP TO REOPEN TOMORROW AFTER CYCLONE RAE
In consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, is pleased to announce that those schools in the Lau Group, will open tomorrow, Thursday, 27th February 2025.
The decision to open the schools in the Lau Group follows a thorough assessment of the situation after Tropical Cyclone Rae, which caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and crossings, impacting access to schools. With the situation now stabilized and recommendations received from various divisions, the Minister has confirmed that schools in the Lau Group are now able to resume operations.
“We are pleased to inform all students, parents, and teachers in the Lau Group that schools are now open and ready to resume normal classes. We thank the communities in the Lau Group for their patience and resilience during the past few days,” said the Minister.
Schools in the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, Western, Central Divisions, and Rotuma have been operating as scheduled since yesterday.
“The Ministry of Education continues to monitor the situation closely. While schools are open, we urge parents to assess situations in your area and make informed decisions about sending children to school,” said the Minister.
The Minister Hon. Radrodro, further advised school heads to stay in close contact with their respective Management Committees, as well as District and Divisional Officers, for any further updates.
