MINISTER FOR EDUCATION OFFICIATES GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF NEW CLASSROOMS AND COMMISSIONING OF NEW ABLUTION BLOCK AT VALELAWA PRIMARY SCHOOL
In a momentous occasion for Valelawa Primary School, the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for a new classroom and the commissioning of ablution block, both fully funded by the Ministry of Education. Hon. Radrodro, highlighted the historic significance of Valelawa Primary School, which has been a beacon of education for over 60 years. The school has educated generations of students from surrounding villages, including, Valelawa no1, Valelawa no2, Dreka, Naua, Natekateka, Nawasa,Namatogo, Nakanacagi.
The Minister acknowledged the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Yasa to the school’s old building. Although the building could not be salvaged, the community rallied, and classes continued in temporary tents generously provided by UNICEF.
“While the tents were a temporary solution, today, we are turning a new page. Thanks to the support of the Coalition Government, we are officially commencing the construction of a new classroom and unveiling a new ablution block,” said Hon. Radrodro.
The new 27×27 classroom, funded with $45,000 from the Ministry, will replace the temporary tent. It will give students a safe, stable, and comfortable place to learn and grow, helping to improve their overall educational experience. The new ablution block, worth $50,000, is a significant upgrade to the school’s facilities. Built for Early Childhood Education (ECE) and lower primary students, it will ensure they have clean, safe, and hygienic toilets.
“The construction of these new facilities demonstrates our continued commitment to improving the education sector in Fiji. Every child deserves access to a safe, nurturing, and well-equipped learning environment, and today, we are delivering on that promise,” said Hon. Radrodro.
The Minister encouraged the entire school community especially the School Management Committee, teachers, and students to take great pride in the new facilities and to care for them so that future generations can benefit from them.
