WORLD BANK SUPPORTS EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT IN FIJI

The Honourable Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, met with the World Bank team during their visit to Suva from January 20-24, 2025. This visit was part of the Advisory Support for Pacific Island Region in Education (ASPIRE) initiative, supported by DFAT and the Educational Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP).

The meeting focused on ongoing efforts to improve education in Fiji, including:

• A pilot program for Early Childhood Education teachers that combines digital and face-to-face training

• Fiji’s participation in a global study on childcare spaces

• Support for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

• Capacity building for evidence-based policy development and budgeting

Hon. Radrodro commended the strong partnership and highlighted Fiji’s commitment to working with the World Bank to improve the country’s education system.

The visit also gave the team a chance to meet with education institutions and development partners in Fiji.

The World Bank delegation, led by Shawn Powers, Senior Economist for Education, included experts such as Dr. Charmaine Kwan, Professor Satish Chand, Professor Sally Brinkman, Vilsoni Inia, Fulori Manoa, Benjamin Lam, Julia Smolyar, and Saleshni Lalji.
