The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, officiated at the Annual Prize Giving and Year 13 Graduation Ceremony at Rewa Secondary School, celebrating academic achievements, extracurricular excellence, and the accomplishments of the graduating class of 2024.
Rewa Secondary School has maintained an outstanding record of academic success, with a 100% pass rate in the Year 13 External Certificate Examinations for 2022 and 2023. The Hon. Minister applauded the students, teachers, and staff for their commitment to academic excellence.
“Rewa Secondary has set the bar high with an impressive 88% pass rate in the FY12 Certificate Examinations for 2023, well above the national average,” said Hon. Radrodro.
The Minister also commended the school’s Men’s Netball team for reaching the quarter-finals in the National Championship and praised the success of the Cadet Program, which has contributed to leadership development within the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The ceremony highlighted numerous awards, including Academic Awards, Subject Awards for Year 12 and Year 13, and the prestigious Dux Award.
Hon. Radrodro encouraged the graduates to explore various educational and career paths, such as tertiary education, vocational training, or entrepreneurship, with full support from government initiatives like the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TSLS).
Hon. Radrodoro also expressed deep appreciation for the teachers and parents, noting that the success of the students was a reflection of the unwavering support and guidance they received at home and at school. “Teachers are not only educators but also mentors, and parents are their first teachers.”
The Minister reiterated the People’s Coalition Government’s commitment to providing quality education for all students. “We are investing heavily in the education sector, and we need everyone’s cooperation to ensure our students thrive,” he stated.
Hon. Radrodro expressed concern over the performance of some students, describing it as a national issue. He called on parents, teachers, and the community to collaborate with the Ministry, urging them to monitor students’ progress, spend quality time with them, and motivate them to work harder. “With collective effort, our children will succeed,” the Minister concluded.
