“We are constantly reminded that under the Noble Banner Blue we are all members of one great family,” reminded the Honorable Vanawalu, Assistant Minister for Education, while officiating at the School Fundraising and the 81st Anniversary celebrations at Wailevu East District School in Vanualevu on Fiji Day

“It is a double celebration for the school today. Firstly, today is the 54th Year of our Fijian Independence and secondly, I am honored to join you in the celebration to mark the 81st anniversary of Wailevu East District School. It is remarkable for a school to have survived and thrived over 81 glorious years.”

As a former student of Wailevu East District School, Hon. Vanawalu stated that he was overwhelmed to witness the generous support of Wailevu and the surrounding communities coming together for a remarkable cause as the generous donations during the fundraising is not just financial support but it is an investment towards community’s development and progress.

The funds raised by Wailevu East District School Management will contribute towards the building of new School quarters, ablution block, maintenance and upgrading of the current infrastructure.

“This school has progressed since it’s inception in 1943 under the name of Gaunavou District School and the main objective of the school is to preserve and transmit the i-taukei culture; its language, customs, attitudes and education for students to excel in various aspects of life. Au vakavinavinaka ka au nuitaka ni se dei Vinaka tiko na noda I tovo, na noda maroroya na noda vanua, na noda I yau, kei na noda veiwekani, wili kina o ira na wekada eda sa mai bula vata voli,” said Hon. Vanawalu.

Sharing the success stories of a few former students who have etched their names amongst notable positions at the National level which includes; Former Minister for Women and Lands: Ms. Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Former Commissioner Northern and PS for Sugar: Mr. Manasa Masirai Vaniqi and Athletics rep: Mr. Samuela Bulai, he reminded the current students to work hard to achieve their dreams and inspired them to work diligently towards their goals.

Extending his best wishes to everyone on the special occasion of Fiji Day, Hon. Vanawalu stated that we all need to come together as one and continue praying for the success, progress and development of our nation, “God constantly reminds us that under the Nobel Banner Blue we are all members of one great family.”

“The theme for this year’s celebration “To Heal and Hope” assures all of us to believe and do well, have faith and hope in the Lord all the time,” emphasised Hon.Vanawalu.

Reiterating on the commitment of the People’s Coalition government, the Assistant Minister stated that the Ministry of Education believes that every child should have access to a quality education and the opportunities that come with it to ensure that each child receives the education that they truly deserve.
