The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro officially commissioned and handed over a New Ablution Block at Suva Seventh Day Adventist Primary School in Lami to the Head of School and the School Management.

In his opening address Hon. Radrodro acknowledged the late Ratu Aporosa, Roko Tui Suva for donating a land area for the construction of Suva SDA Primary in 1898. Later in 1933, the school was officially registered by the Government of Fiji and served over 100 students from the entire Lami area.

β€œWater, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is an important component of every school and washrooms are vital infrastructure that every school should provide for the comfort of its students.”

β€œKeeping this in mind, our Coalition government through the Ministry has fully funded this newly built ablution block with the total investment of approximately $47,895.00. It will benefit the students and teachers of this school and help improve the hygiene and protect the children from water borne diseases,” said Hon. Radrodro.

The Education Minister stressed that the Coalition Government has been assisting the education sector to benefit parents, students, teachers, employers, and the school committees, β€œYour Government continues to provide Free Education Grant, Transport Assistance, Text Book Assistance and also funds for improving school infrastructure including ablution blocks.”

He added that such initiatives by the government and through the partnership of the communities, will continue the progress towards the development of our beloved Fiji, providing access to inclusive, equitable and quality education.

β€œWhilst commissioning and handing over this project, I also have a message for the management, teachers and the students of Suva SDA Primary school and that is, from today this newly built facility will be yours, so the care and upkeep becomes your responsibility,” said Hon. Radrodro.

In his concluding remarks, the Education Minister stated that Term 3 has begun, and he urges all Students to work hard during this final term of the year and also highlighted to them that quality education will provide them with numerous opportunities in life. He also acknowledged the parents and guardians for providing the necessary support and attention to their children and stressed to the teachers to remain committed and dedicated to make a difference in the lives of these students.
