CLOSING CEREMONY FIJI BASKETBALL SECONDARY SCHOOLS VODAFONE FINALS
Whilst closing the Basketball Federation National Championships In Lautoka on Saturday 31 August, the Permenant Secretary paid tribute to the perseverance of the National Basketball Federation and reminded them that “as a minor sport, the Ministry of Education is committed to provide support,” On that note, Ms. Kuruleca called on other schools to get their students to get engaged in basketball.

Ms. Kuruleca quoted Michael Jordan when he said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”
As the sun settled over the Sugar City last night, Ms Kuruleca extended gratitude to the commitment of the athletes, coaches, team officials, parents, supporters, and the ex-students of the participating schools.
“There were 53 teams in 2023, 66 teams in 2024, well done, in 2025 we would like to see more teams including a Primary Schools Tournament.”
“To our talented players, you have not only been great sportsmen and women, but you have also created memories that will last a lifetime. Your passion for the game, your commitment to excellence, and your belief in each other have brought you to this moment of glory.”
The Permanent Secretary reiterated that victory is not just about winning trophies but about the lessons you have learned, the friendships you have forged, and the growth you have experienced as individuals and as a team. “As we leave today with trophies, let us also remind ourselves to be compassionate, humble, gracious, and kind.’
There is a week of school holidays left, get some much needed rest, spend time to do some structured revision and reading, continue to make good choices and continue to aspire to be better athletes, better young people, and focus on the next goal in term 3.”
