18 MARCH 2024

The Permanent Secretary for Education in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and upon verification with NDMO that most services are operational, is advising All Heads of Schools, Teachers, Parents and Students that all schools around the country will open for resumption of classes from tomorrow (19 March).

“All schools will re-open tomorrow, and those schools that were used as evacuation centres have been cleared. I urge all teachers to assist in the preparation and clean-up of their schools. We want our school environment to be conducive to learning,” said Ms Kuruleca.

“In line with our commitment to safety, we urge everyone to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines, especially regarding areas prone to flooding or other hazards.”

“The past few days were not easy for our students and I remind all teachers to be supportive to our students when they return to school tomorrow. Please see how we can assist our students so that they are comfortable in the classroom,” stated Ms Kuruleca.

The Permanent Secretary further stated that with expected rain over the next few days, all parents and guardians are urged to ensure the safety of their children at all times, and continue to exercise vigilance and discretion.

The Ministry appreciates the cooperation of parents, guardians, teachers, and the community during this time and acknowledges their continued support.
