In his opening address, Mr Tauribau emphasized on the program’s role in promoting gender equality, safety awareness, and tackling marine environmental issues.
He praised the teamwork of Adopt A Ship International, Fiji WIMA, PacWIMA, IMO, SPC, and Government in backing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 5 on gender equality.

With over 90% of Pacific trade relying on shipping, he highlighted education’s role in breaking gender stereotypes and promoting true equality.
The programme’s commencement in three schools – Gospel Primary School, St Anne’s Primary School, and Marist Brothers Primary School – signals a significant step towards providing opportunities for the younger generation to learn about the maritime sector from an early age.
The Adopt A Ship Programme supports Government’s objectives by boosting maritime awareness, improving education, and fostering stronger ties with the global shipping sector.
The Ministry extends its gratitude to all supporters and stakeholders and looks forward to a successful and enriching journey with the Adopt A Ship Programme.
