CAWACI Students Encouraged to have GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

The Deputy PM and Minister for Education, Civil Aviation and Tourism visited St John’s College on Ovalau island to hand over desktop computers before another official engagement later in the day.

In his opening address, Hon. Gavoka thanked the students for the traditional welcome ‘sevusevu’ presented to him and his Permanent Secretary in his Nadroga dialect, which made him swell with pride.

Moreover, the Deputy PM stated that in his recent school visits in Keyasi in Navosa and the schools in the Ra Education District and now in Ovalau, he realises the great connection between Tourism and Civil Aviation to the Education Ministry.

The Education Ministry, being the biggest ministry, plays a pivotal role in preparing students with the right knowledge, skill, and capacity for the future of the workforce in Fiji.

‘As the world is getting smaller with improved technology and communication, the Coalition government invests in technology to ensure that all schools are equipped with computers and software that will enable Fiji to be the hub of technology in the Pacific.’ stressed the Minister for Education.

The Coalition government is investing in technology by supplying rural, remote, and maritime schools with desktops to supplement the stock in the schools. The Technical Vocational Unit of MOE has utilised about $200, 000 to supply desktops to 18 rural remote maritime secondary schools that have recently offered Computer Education and Office Technology studies at Years 9-13 level

The Hon. Gavoka reminded the students of St. John’s College that in his time as a student at RKS, Cawaci was renowned in its prowess especially in the field of rugby. ‘ Today, I want to challenge you to rise and showcase your skills and knowledge in all spheres of learning both in the core and extra curriculum of education.‘
