The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, visited Namara District School in the Yasawa Islands to officially commission a new ablution block. The community expressed gratitude for the visit, appreciating the Ministerβs support as the first Education Minister to visit Namara.
The $200,000 facility was fully funded and constructed through a generous partnership between Barefoot Collections and the Drawaqa Trust under the Duavata Project. Construction began in September 2024 and was completed in March 2025.
In his address, Hon. Radrodro thanked the school, community, and project partners for their dedication. βThis is more than a building , it restores dignity and ensures a safe environment for our children. It reflects what can be achieved when communities and partners work together.β
Namara District School, established in 1980 and relocated after a landslide in 1985, now serves 72 primary students and 16 kindergarten children from Namara, Yamata, and Naboro villages. The school boasts strong academic and sporting achievements, including an 89% Year 8 pass rate in 2024.
The Minister also highlighted the new facilityβs alignment with the Ministryβs objectives, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing safe, inclusive learning spaces.
The Ministry acknowledged and thanked Mr. Gareth and the Barefoot team, school leaders, parents, and teachers for their continued support in uplifting education standards in rural communities.
