The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro honors the invaluable contribution of the Girmitiyas to Fiji.
โThis year the Coalition Government once again, declares a public holiday to mark the 146 years of co-existence in our beloved Fiji. We acknowledge the immense impact of the Girmitiyas to nation building since their first arrival in 1879 and we strongly believe that it is only proper that Fiji commemorates this special day.โ
โThe theme for this year โPreserving the Past, Envisioning the Futureโ is apt as the Girmitiyas brought with them their rich cultural heritage, which has become an integral part of Fiji’s multicultural identity. Through music, dance, cuisine, and traditions, they have expanded the cultural diversity of Fiji,โ said Hon. Radrodro.
