HONOURABLE RADRODRO REINFORCES STUDENT SAFETY AND TEACHER RESPONSIBILITY AHEAD OF SCHOOL SPORTS EVENTS

The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, this afternoon met with school sporting officials and representatives to continue discussions on the safety and welfare of students during major school sporting events. The meeting was attended by representatives from various sporting bodies.

Hon. Radrodro reiterated that all school sports events must receive proper approval from the Ministry of Education. He emphasized that teachers play a vital role in supervising students before, during, and after these events, and that their presence and oversight is paramount.

The Minister also reminded all stakeholders of their shared responsibility in ensuring student safety, proper upbringing, and nurturing, especially around large events such as the Athletics Zone Meets and Coca-Cola Games. He acknowledged the positive progress in zones such as Tailevu and Triple N and thanked organizers for their efforts. However, he also warned against the over-commercialization of students and stressed the need for all involved to diligently carry out their roles with the students’ best interests at heart.

More important discussions were held around improving coordination, ensuring transparency, and strengthening support for students throughout the sporting season.

The Ministry remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure school sports remain safe, meaningful, and focused on student development.
