HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE CONFERENCE FOR PACIFIC EDUCATION MINISTERS 2025
The Conference for Pacific Education Ministers 2025 held in Port Moresby, PNG created a platform for Education Ministers and Development Partners to discuss key issues and strategies for the Pacific Regional Education Framework.
Hon. Radrodro presented a statement on the theme; Transforming Edukesen for a Better Pacific. The Minister for Education focused on the Educational Development in Fiji, deliberating on the Denarau Declaration and the key priorities and strategies which the Education stakeholders had identified.
“Transforming education in the Pacific region should be based on relevance and contextualisation approach in order to achieve SDG 4 access to quality education and lifelong learning.”
The Minister for Education met with different stakeholders, reflecting on the need for deliberate collaboration in the Pacific to strengthen not only ties but educational systems and frameworks. Educational issues in the Pacific that were highlighted during the 2025 CPEM by the various state ministers, such as teacher shortages, school dropouts, the need for skill based education, investment in early childhood education and the increasing rate of artificial intelligence (AI) used by student.
“Sustainable and transformative Education in the Pacific, recognises the importance of preserving and promoting Pacific Island cultures, stated Hon. Radrodro, “and there needs to be an emphasis of the integration of indigenous knowledge into curriculum development”
The Hon. Minister for Education expressed gratitude to the government of Papua New Guinea for hosting the successful conference and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with regional partners. The CPEM 2025 will end on Thursday 20th March, 2025 after the presentation of the outcomes, which will lead to the CPEM 2025 Statement of Commitment.
