EDUCATION MINISTER VISITS VANUABALAVU SCHOOLS, PROVIDING SUPPORT AND RESOURCES TO REMOTE COMMUNITIES
The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, visited Vanuabalavu schools in the Lau group. While it had been a long time since a Minister for Education last visited, village leaders and communities expressed immense gratitude, as they were very thankful that the Minister remembered them after such a long gap.
Honourable Radrodro, encouraged the village communities to support teachers posted to their schools and remain actively involved in their children’s education. The Minister’s primary focus during the visit was to discuss literacy, numeracy, and exam pass rates with parents and teachers. Honourable Radrodro, emphasized that parents should not only ensure their children attend school but also be actively engaged in their learning, as they are their children’s first teachers at home.
The Minister acknowledged the hard work of Heads of Schools, school managers, teachers, and village leaders, thanking them for their continued support of education and assuring them of the Ministry’s commitment to providing ongoing support.
Honourable Radrodro handed over essential library resources, including books, shelves, tables, and chairs, to the schools he visited, helping improve the learning environment for students.
The Minister’s visit also provided insight on challenges faced by maritime schools both in terms of isolation and environment as well as rural urban migration and decreasing school roll.
The Minister, Honourable Radrodro, also announced that TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses will soon be available at Adi Maopa Secondary School. This initiative will provide new opportunities for students in Vanuabalavu.
The Minister’s visit allowed school communities to ask questions and make requests to various government departments that accompanied the Honourable Minister, including BSP Life, Ministry of Lands & Mineral Resources, Ministry of Forestry, Legal Aid, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of iTaukei Affairs. The visit emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring all students, no matter where they live, have access to quality education. Teachers, students, and village communities expressed their gratitude for the Honourable Minister’s support.
