MESSAGE BY THE HONOURABLE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION ON WORLD RADIO DAY 2025

“Today, as we celebrate ‘World Radio Day 2025’, we must embrace and acknowledge the remarkable role that Radio has had on Education in terms of sharing knowledge and information whilst connecting communities and people together for numerous years,” said the Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro.

“As the Minister for Education, I recognise the invaluable role radio has played, and continues to play in education, since it has been fundamentally influential in delivering educational content through the school broadcasting radio programme on Literacy and numeracy for Years 1 – 4, and updates for teachers every Tuesday on Radio Fiji One.”

He asserted that for all students and teacher’s radio should be an educational companion and a source of information because as a medium of communication, it surpasses geographical barricades and reaches even the most remote corners of our beautiful Fiji.

Hon. Radrodro stressed that the theme for World Radio Day 2025 – ‘Radio and Climate Change: A Powerful Tool for Climate Action’ is apt since we as educators need to emphasise that radio programs aids in creating awareness on local and global environmental issues, the impacts of climate change, and realistic conservation practices among our people.

The Education Minister urges all students and teachers to value radio as an educational tool for teaching and learning. “We must appreciate that through educational programs, discussions, and talkback shows, radio not only enlightens all its listeners but also enhances the cognitive skills of our students and teachers in the educational landscape.”
