FIRST HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION FIJI OFFICE OPENS IN LABASA
The Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF) has marked a historic milestone by opening its first office in Labasa, bringing higher education services closer to the people of the Northern Division for the first time in 54 years.
The event was officiated by the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, alongside the Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro. They were joined by the Turaga na Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere; respected chiefs of Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata; Cabinet Ministers; Chair of the Higher Education Commission Fiji, Mr. Steve Chand, and the HECF Board; as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps.
This milestone reflects the People’s Coalition Government’s dedication to providing quality education for all Fijians, ensuring inclusivity regardless of location. The Labasa office will focus on quality assurance, higher education regulation, and supporting programs like TVET and lifelong learning.
The new office supports Fiji’s National Development Plan (2025-2029) and Vision 2050, offering essential services to students and creating opportunities for academic and professional growth to boost the nation’s socio-economic development.
The Ministry of Education encourages the people of the North to utilize this facility, which aims to empower individuals through education, innovation, and skill-building.
