Due to the heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in the central, eastern and northern division of Fiji, the Minister for Education is advising all heads of schools, teachers, parents and guardians to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of our children.
โThe Ministry of Education is actively monitoring the current weather situation and its potential impact on the upcoming Year 13 National Examinations, scheduled to commence on Monday (28/10/2024). We will provide timely updates as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff involvedโ said Hon. Aseri Radrodro.
โWe will keep a close watch on the situation and provide updates based on advice from National Disaster Management Office (NDMO). I am also reminding all parents and guardians to take heed of the weather updates and exercise all precautions in ensuring our childrenโs safety. You should be aware of the whereabouts of your children and they should not be seen near falling debris or play and cross flooded rivers and creeks,โ said Hon. Aseri Radrodro.
The Disaster Risk Reduction of the Ministry is closely monitoring the weather conditions. Wailea and Nanuku Settlements in the central division has been advised to evacuate their home immediately. Evacuation centers opened now are Marcellin Primary School and Marist Champagnant Institute in Vatuwaqa.
โI also urge our Divisional and District officers to collaborate with our Heads of Schools to ensure we secure all schools, facilities and ensure the safety of our children. All Heads HOS are also reminded to only release children to their parents or guardians when it is safe to do so.โ
