The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka paid his courtesy visit to the MOE Statutory Bodies in his capacity as the Minister for Eduaction to discuss their roles and responsibilities, and how they can improve service delivery at the ground level. This was his first meeting with the Statutory Bodies since he joined the Ministry of Education.
The MOE Statutory Bodies are Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA), Substance Abuse Advisory Council (SAAC), Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) and Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF).
Hon. Gavoka extended his heartfelt gratitude to the different Statutory Bodies and stressed on the importance of knowing the Ministry’s policies, plans, programmes, procedures and legislations to be able to offer the support in delivering quality education to students.
The MOE Statutory Bodies are the support centres to deliver decentralised services to the teachers and students. They also provide effective direction, facilitate resourcing, and support to meet the outcomes set by the Ministry.
The Education Minister stated that he wishes to see transformation in education through each organisation’s effective roles and responsibilities. He also advised that we need to have a modern look at the Education System and see how effectively we can see our students progress in this ever changing education landscape.
DPM Hon. Gavoka also encouraged the Statutory Bodies to reflect and redesign their plans to better serve our students and the country based on policies and procedures.
The Minister for Education conveyed his best wishes to each organization towards the accomplishment of their vision in the 2024 academic year.
