- Curriculum
The diversification of the labor market
needs has brought about the many different types of
subjects and disciplines that now make up the TVET
curriculum. The combined forces of globalization and
the rapid changes in technology have brought about
this diversification. These two factors have contributed
greatly to the nature of the workplace today, which
also contributed to the way school curriculum has
been designed.
TVET programme in the past was restricted
only to subjects that were mainly taken by boys. Nowadays,
the workplace demands are increasing not only in numbers
but in the variety of skills required as well. TVET
subjects that are now taught in schools include:
Agriculture Science, Computer Education, Home Economic,
Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textile, Food Technology,
Apparel and Design, Woodwork, Metalwork, Wood Technology,
Engineering Technology, Technical Drawing and Design,
Introduction to Technology, Secretarial Studies, Commercial
Practice, Shorthand, Typewriting, Carpentry and Joinery,
Automotive Engineering, Basic Catering and Food Production
and Basic Tailoring and Garment Production
Other new vocational courses that
have recently shown popularity in schools include:
Agriculture, Computing, Marine Culture, Aquaculture,
Bee keeping farming, floriculture, Hospitality study,
Welding & Fabrication, Boat Building, Office Technology,
Home Stay, Organic Farming, Pottery and many other
studies.
There is more room for expansion but
it is apparent that each school will only select the
best programme that best suit its environment to offer
to its children.
