Enable secondary school aged children from disadvantaged rural and populated urban disadvantaged community access quality secondary and vocational education. Ensure that students receive good quality secondary education. Provide alternative curricula choices to enable students with more pathway relating to their study and the intended job market. Prepare and lay sound education foundation of students for further education and training in tertiary institutions. Provide qualified, trained and competent teachers for all our secondary schools. Offer financial and advisory assistance to schools. Prepare and present the Section’s annual budget estimates. Administer tuition grants, remission grants, Form 7 scholarships, Salary grants, per capita grants, grants for boarding schools, textbooks grants and furniture grants for government schools. Encourage the collection of Revenue and manage the 13 Government schools for the Ministry. Appoint, transfer and promote teachers through the normal processes, including the Public Service Appeal Board. Administer Staff and Student discipline procedures and manage mis-behaviour along the approved guidelines/policy. Consult with school managements and other NGOs when need arise. Maintain healthy industrial relations framework with FTA & FTU. Review and monitor staff performance. Advertise vacant positions and make acting appointments. Visit secondary schools for ‘review’, assessments and reporting purposes. Also provide advice to school administrations. Conduct Staff development, Counseling Services to teachers and meet and advice school management when visiting schools. Monitor and assess Principal’s Performance and countersign ACR of Principals [including APs and VPs] of schools. Give advice to Hon. Minister for Education, Permanent Secretary for Education, etc., when required. |
