The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts, in collaboration with Fijian
Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) and Walesi, are developing educational
television programmes for Fijian children who are at home due to COVID-19.
The supplementary materials will be broadcasted via the Walesi platform and will enable students to keep themselves engaged while at home due to the extended school closure.
The learning materials are another avenue provided by the Ministry to allow greater accessibility and delivery of quality education. Parents and Guardians who have access to smartphones and Walesi are requested to encourage children to make use of these supplementary learning materials.
Minister Akbar said the team is working with the relevant stakeholders to ensure interesting programmes are delivered to our children.
“While Walesi will be able to broadcast these in a few weeks time, in the interim as part of the testing phase, Walesi is airing some educational materials on the Education Channel which children can view to keep themselves engaged. These include some exciting educational cartoons, historical videos on our heritage and culture and basic learning materials for different age groups.”
The Ministry will release the programme schedule at a later date once production is completed.
Minister Akbar reiterated that these are extraordinary times and we are all
working around these changes to ensure we continue delivering quality
education to the children of Fiji. It is important that our children stay safe, stay at home and continue learning through the supplementary learning materials provided by the Ministry.
Parents and guardians are once again urged to remind children of the importance of practising good hygiene while at home and use this time to bond with members of their households.
